Aquarius PR's in-house religion consultancy team has some 50 years’ combined academic, media and pastoral experience within the field of religion and is in itself a valuable source of resources and expertise.
The consultancy was founded in 2006 by Suzanne Evans who, after graduating from Lancaster University with a BA Honours degree in Religious Studies, spent the next ten years working as a broadcaster with the BBC. Specialising as a religious affairs reporter, she worked extensively at home and on foreign assignment for the BBC Radio 4 religious programme, Sunday, and for what is now called Reporting Religion on the BBC World Service. She also freelanced for the national broadsheets and the religious press. Today, she makes regular contributions to diverse media channels (such as the BBC1 Heaven and Earth show, The Church of England Newspaper and My Spirit Radio), either commenting on or appearing as an authority on religion and religious issues. A member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, with ten years’ experience working in PR and Marketing Communications (including with many religious organisations), she is well aware of the need for reliable sources of information and good counsel in protecting image and reputation.
David V Barrett, a former Religious Studies teacher now working as a journalist and writer is also a religion consultant with Aquarius PR. The author of 21 books, he is in demand as a speaker on radio, television and at conferences. An acknowledged expert on New Religious Movements, he authored The New Believers (Cassell 2001), an authoritative exploration of sects, ‘cults’ and alternative religions of the 20th century. Other titles include Secret Societies (Blandford 1997), The Predictions Library - a series of six books on Tarot, Runes, Dreams, Numerology, Palmistry and Graphology (Dorling Kindersley 1995) and Victorian Fortune-Telling, (Letts 1992). David also writes for many publications, including the Times Literary Supplement, The Independent, The Guardian, The Literary Review, New Scientist, New Statesman & Society, The Spectator, The Catholic Herald, Fortean Times, Phenomena and amazon.co.uk. He has contributed to several encyclopaedias in his specialist areas, most recently to the forthcoming Chambers Dictionary of the Unexplained. He is currently expanding his knowledge and studying for a PhD in Sociology at the London School of Economics.
